Drovers Defeat as RGC’s Season Comes To An End

Llandovery 36 RGC 30

SRC Play Off, Quarter-final.

Saturday 15th April 2026

RGC’s season ended at Llandovery, with a quarter final defeat.  In close run 80 minutes, the Gogs will look back on a period of the 2nd half where they didn’t take their chances and look after the ball at crucial moments.

Both sides wanted to play the ball fast, move it wide and find space and RGC were on the front foot at the start.

Camped on the Drovers line the went short on a couple of phases before firing a pass to Dion Jones, who spun out a tackle to carry the ball over the line.  Billy McBryde’s conversion hit the upright.

From the restart the home side got on the ball, and prop Jamie Hughes crashed over from short range.  Ioan Hughes hit the upright with his conversion.

RGC were finding some luck down the left wing, with Caio Parry finding some space to attack with his pace.  The Gogs took the lead with a McBryde penalty.

It was a good spell from the visitors, again camped on the line but Drovers came away with a penalty to ease the pressure

Pace was fast, in the heat but both sides continued to move the ball. Scrum-half Lee Reece was next to break before RGC;s.  Sam Williams chased him,e down

McBryde tried his luck again from distance, and the penalty struck the post.

Llandovery regained the lead, and again Jamie Hughes crashed over with Hughes adding the extras.

The scoreboard was working hard, when Gareth Parry broke down the field with McBryde on his shoulder, before Delwyn Jones bumped a tackle and powered over. McBryde converted

Caio Parry was next to break down the middle, but a pass ended up in the hands of a Drovers player and cleared.

A minute later, a quick Llandovery lineout got them to the line and again from close range with hooker Cameron Lewis getting it. Hughes conversion to give them a 4 point lead at the break.

2nd half and early momentum was with the home side before Lewis grabbed his 2nd from a driving maul.  The boot of Hughes extended the lease.

RGC’s errors were costing them, knock ons, lineout accuracy and loose passes all stifled a chance to build.

The penalty count was cranking up against Llandovery, as the pressure built.

They got to whitewash on a couple of occasions but left without a score when they needed to shift the story of the game.

Sam Williams carried, made some yards but a grabber kick for a supporting Delwyn Jones bounced to Llandovery hands.

That try did arrive when the Drovers went to clear but the kick went high, and short before being tapped into the hands of Dafydd Thirsk who ran over for the points.  McBryde couldn’t add the extras.

A minute later Drovers won a penalty from the scrum and Hughes made it a 9 point lead, with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

Credit to RGC who put their heads down and ran the play back into the home sides half. They were rewarded with a McBryde penalty and a chance to get the ball back from the restart.

It was edge of the seat stuff, when Caio Parry turned on the burners to sprint down the wing but his kick ahead just bounced away from him as he chased the ball to the line.

The Gogs knew they had to go for it, and when they moved the ball wide Harry Doel got an intercept to run and close the game off. Hughes again was on target with the conversion.

With the clock on red, the Gogs finished the game with a try from Caio Parry and a conversion from McBryde but in the end the clock and the scoreboard were against them.
