Time: 2:30pm
Venue: Pontypool Park
Pontypool return to home turf this weekend, aiming to build on their strong start to the season as they host RGC at Pontypool Park.
Strong Start Against Swansea
In wet and tricky conditions last week, Pooler opened their campaign with a 25–13 victory over Swansea. Tries came from scrum-half Rhodri Cole, number eight Morgan Allen, and Wales U20s squad member Evan Wood, while fly-half Kieran Meek added 10 points from the tee.
It was a clinical start that combined physicality with sharp attacking execution, giving Leigh Hancock’s side an early boost of confidence.
Last Season Recap
Pontypool finished fifth in the Premiership last term, bowing out to eventual champions Llandovery in the play-offs. Strengthened by several key additions and a wave of young talent, the target this season is clear: a top-four finish.
Blending Youth and Experience
Head Coach Tom Hancock, who also works within the Dragons RFC academy, is overseeing a squad that mixes seasoned professionals with developing prospects.
Among the recruits is Dragons centurion Joe Davies, while academy graduates, including Morgan Carter, Luke Daniels, George Tuckley, and Rhys Cole have benefitted from a full preseason with the senior squad.
“Even in training, you can see growth in their game awareness and physicality. It’s been a real positive,” said Hancock.
Wales U20s to Return
Pontypool’s depth will soon be boosted by several players who represented Wales U20s this summer – former RGC fly-half Harri Ford, Evan Minto, Ryan Jones, and Owain James. Hancock.

RGC View
RGC will arrive at Pontypool Park determined to test the home side, with Charlie Probert emphasising the need for discipline and intensity.
“Looking back at last week, we can take plenty from the game, especially in attack, but we need to improve this weekend if we are to get that win.
Ultimately, it's looking after the ball, making sure our discipline is good and building on the momentum we create.
If we do that and continue to create chances, then we will give Pontypool a game.
That's been the focus this week in training, so we all know what is needed.
When you look at previous games against Pontypool, the wins have gone to the home side (two wins each), so it’s obvious home advantage makes a difference. To get that win, we need to be at our best for the 80 minutes, start well and keep the performance levels high without dropping off – if that happens, then we will get punished.”
