Job Title:
RGC Assistant Coach

Salary:
Dependent on experience

Location:
Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, North Wales

Hours of Work:
12 hours per week plus game days
Flexibility required for evenings and weekends as necessary

Responsible to:
RGC General Manager

Responsible for:
RGC SRC Players

Contractual Status:

  • Casual
  • 9-month role

Role Summary

  • Assist the RGC SRC Head Coach in team preparation and competition.
  • Support continuous development and improvement for players.
  • Help provide a strong team culture to achieve high-level performance.

  • RGC Academy Manager
  • RGC SRC and Academy Staff

Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities

  • Support all aspects of RGC SRC training, selection, and competition.
  • Implement a style of play that fits within RGC’s regional playing philosophy.
  • Assist with previews, feedback, and reviews of training and competition linked to IDPs and ongoing learning.
  • Promote and reinforce the vision and strategic purpose of RGC and the North Wales Development Region.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture within RGC SRC, aligned with WRU and RGC standards and values.
  • Protect private athlete information in line with WRU HR Department guidelines.

Continued Professional Development

RGC are committed to providing CPD for the successful candidate. We expect the candidate to undertake training courses and research to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and experience.

Person Specification

Experience & Knowledge

  • Previous experience in a rugby coaching environment, ideally within Player Development or Professional levels.
  • Understanding of the challenges of high-performance coaching and the needs of elite young players.
  • Experience in setting goals, targets, and implementing action plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Welsh Rugby structures and operations, from club to national level.

Skills & Qualifications

  • WRU Level 3 coaching award.
  • Sports science or related degree (preferred).
  • Excellent IT skills, including Apple Mac, Google Suite, Sportscode, and Microsoft software.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh (desirable).
