Pre-Season Win Against Chester
RGC kicked off their pre-season games with an entertaining win against Chester at Stadwim CSM.
RGC 50 v Chester 19
Saturday 23rd August, Stadiwm CSM
RGC kicked off their pre-season games with an entertaining win against Chester at Stadwim CSM.
It was the visitors who started on the front foot, with former Gogs Rhys Hamilton, Tommy Ellis and Sam Rogers attacking with intent.
RGC worked hard around the breakdown and nullified Chester at key times.
That hard work and effort paid off, as when the Gogs visited the Chester 22 for the 1st time, and Delwyn Jones crashed over for the try.
They were 14 up when Delwyn Jones again received the ball on the run and he crashed through to dab down, and McBryde added the extras.
The Stadoiwm CSM crowd had just finished cheering that 2nd try, and winger Louis Williams raced down the pitch to outpace the Chester defence to score. The boot of McBryde on point again.
RGC made a raft of changes after 20 minutes, as they looked to get players minutes, and the scoreboard kept ticking when the pack drove to the line and Emyr Jones popped up with the ball and the try.
Chester were struggling to contain RGC with the ball in hand, so when Dion Jones found a gap and took it, the pitch opened up before Tudur Jones collected to set up Emyr Jones to sprint to the line. Dion Jones grabbed the 2 points with the boot.
The visitors continued to look for that try, and found some inroads, but again RGC managed to transition from defence into attack when scrum-half Tudur Jones snatched the ball and ran down the pitch before being tackled.
Matters were made worse for the visitors when Tommy Ellis was shown a yellow card, and it soon became 5 tries when Caio Parry touchdowned at half-time.
The visitors did make the breakthrough with the opening score of the 2nd half, when former RGC centre Rhys Hamilton crossed the line, and another former player, Morgan Bagshaw, converted.
Unlike the 1st half, Chester started to find some space when they had the ball in hand and when they created a 2 on 1 down the right wing, Tom Furnival scored. Again Bagshaw was on target with the conversion.
RGC pack was again showing its power, and when the maul drove hard to the line, Osian Burt was able to touchdown for the try. McBryde nailed the conversion.
Caio Parry got the fans on their feet when he collected the ball in his own half and sprinted down the wing, but was knocked into touch as the whitewash was in sight.
RGC scrum-half Connor Dever was lively around the scrum, and, on a few occasions, caused the visitors problems.
When the Gogs moved the ball wide, they found some success, and the 50 points were reached with Osian Llywelen crossing in the corner.
A minute later, it was the visitors who found space on the wing with Daniel Redhead collecting a looping pass to run in for his side's 3rd try.
Next up, Coventry away on Saturday 30th August.
