RGC Beat Bridgend to Claim Final Spot

RGC 42–5 Bridgend

Saturday 28 February 2026 | SRC Plate Semi-Final | Stadiwm Eirias

RGC booked their place in the SRC Plate Final with a commanding 42–5 victory over Bridgend at Stadiwm Eirias.

In sunny conditions, the Gogs made an immediate statement of intent, moving the ball with pace and looking to exploit space out wide. Early inroads from Caio Parry and Delwyn Jones put Bridgend under pressure, while a solid scrum platform earned valuable penalties and kept RGC on the front foot.

They were unlucky not to have scored, when Caio Parry was edged into touch on a couple of occasions.

Despite a scrappy spell where handling errors interrupted momentum, RGC’s pressure eventually told. After a sustained period camped near the Bridgend line, Sam Williams forced his way over for the opening try. Billy McBryde converted to give the hosts a 7–0 lead.

Pedr Jones and Daf Thirsk combined well to carry the ball, make yards and take tacklers with them.

RGC struck again soon after. Sam Jones gathered possession near halfway, cut inside sharply and sprinted clear to score beneath the posts. McBryde added the extras to extend the lead to 14–0.

Delwyn Jones continued to run at the shoulders, and Bridgend’s Burnell was struggling to contain him.

Bridgend enjoyed their best attacking spell of the half but were denied by key turnovers from Sam Williams and Harper Chamberlain, easing the pressure on the home side.

RGC showed real composure with and without the ball - which gave them the edge in the game.

The next score came from sharp defensive awareness. Bridgend attempted to move the ball wide, but Caio Parry read the pass, intercepted, and raced in from halfway. McBryde maintained his perfect record from the tee.

RGC carried that momentum into the second half. Straight after the restart, Harper Chamberlain crossed in the corner, with McBryde again adding the conversion.

On his 150th appearance, Dion Jones came close to scoring, but the officials pulled back his try.

The hosts continued to dominate possession and territory, and further reward came when McBryde’s pass found Parry, who dived over for his second try of the afternoon. Another successful kick made it 35–0.

A yellow card for Sam Williams briefly reduced RGC to 14 men, and Bridgend capitalised through Tommy Morgan for their only try. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 35–5.

RGC had the final word. Winger Sam Jones crossed for his second try to round off an emphatic performance, while McBryde’s flawless kicking display completed the 42–5 victory.

A dominant 6 try display built on set-piece strength, defensive discipline and clinical finishing sees RGC deservedly progress to the SRC Plate Final to face Swansea next Saturday.
