McBryde Earns Scarlets Call-Up

RGC fly-half Billy McBryde has joined the Scarlets squad ahead of Friday’s United Rugby Championship clash with Benetton in Treviso, adding experience and depth to their fly-half options.

With Sam Costelow and Joe Hawkins currently away with the Wales Six Nations squad and academy fly-half Elis Price sidelined through injury, the Scarlets have brought in McBryde to provide cover in a key position.

The 29-year-old currently sits as the top scorer in Super Rygbi Cymru. His form has earned him the opportunity to train and play once again in a professional environment—an opportunity he was keen to embrace.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, McBryde expressed his gratitude to RGC for allowing him to take up the opportunity.

“I’d like to thank RGC for allowing me to play for the Scarlets this week. To be able to train and play in a professional environment again was something I couldn’t turn down. Rest assured, I’ll be back to finish the season off strongly,” said McBryde.

RGC General Manager Alun Pritchard praised the selection, highlighting both McBryde’s form and what the call-up represents for the competition.
“We’re delighted to see Billy being given the opportunity to play in the URC. It’s well deserved considering how well he’s played for us since returning to North Wales and also reflects well on Super Rygbi Cymru. We wish him the best of luck.”
