RGC Head Down to Drovers: Preview
RGC head to Llandovery
RGC Gear Up for SRC Round 4 Clash at Llandovery
Last week, Llandovery made their longest trip of the season to North Wales, and this Saturday it’s RGC’s turn to make the shortest journey south for SRC Round 4.
It was the visitors who claimed victory at Stadiwm Eirias, and RGC will be looking to replicate that result on their travels.
Recent Form & Trends
Last season brought a familiar pattern for RGC:
- Back-to-back fixtures against Pontypool in Rounds 3 and 4 saw a home win followed by an away loss.
- Over the festive period, RGC won away at Bridgend but fell short at home.
This time, the squad is determined to flip the script and keep the winning trend alive with a big result at Llandovery.
History at Church Bank
Getting a result in Llandovery is never easy.
RGC’s last league win there came back in 2018, a thrilling 24–32 victory featuring tries from:
- Afon Bagshaw
- Danny Cross
- Dion Jones
With Billy McBryde adding the extras from the boot.
Player Focus – Connor Dever
Scrum-half Connor Dever reflected on last week’s performance and the challenge ahead:
“We gave ourselves a mammoth of a job after conceding 5 tries in the first half due to our own errors, which cost us field position.
We love a back-to-back fixture so we can put right what we didn’t do last week. Heading down to Llandovery on Saturday, everything is fresh in our minds, and we know where our improvements need to be.
We’re not overly focused on the opposition—just ourselves. When you look at the Pontypool win, we stayed in the game and put ourselves in a winning position in those last minutes, and that’s what we need to do at Llandovery. We’re going down with the mindset of leading from the kick-off.”
Fact of the Day
- Dion Jones made his RGC debut in 2017 against Llandovery.
