Win against Quins

RGC 41 – 23 Carmarthen Quins

Saturday 28th March 2026 – Stadiwm Eirias

RGC produced a dominant second-half display to secure a 41–23 victory over Carmarthen Quins at Stadiwm Eirias, pulling away after a tightly contested opening period played in difficult conditions.  6 tries and 6 points puts RGC in 6th spot, leapfrogging over the visitors.

The hosts made the perfect start, striking early when Connor Dever grounded the ball at the back of a driving maul. Billy McBryde added the conversion to give RGC a 7–0 lead.

Carmarthen Quins responded well, powering over from close range after sustained forward pressure to level the scores. With heavy rain and swirling wind making handling difficult, both sides struggled for accuracy, but the visitors edged ahead through an Ifan Davies penalty.

It was a scrappy affair, and the flow of the game was stop/start.

RGC showed flashes of attacking intent, with wingers Caio Parry and Sam Jones making dangerous breaks, though often finding themselves isolated. Quins extended their lead when Ilan Phillips latched onto a kick ahead to score, giving the visitors the advantage. The sun came out and the Gogs needed to offer a spark but headed into the changing rooms with a bit to do.

Second Half

RGC emerged with renewed intensity after the interval. After Sam Jones was held up close to the line, Billy McBryde forced his way over and converted his own try to put RGC back in front at 14–13.

With momentum building, RGC struck again down the right. Sam Jones turned provider this time, sending Delwyn Jones over for another try. McBryde then extended the lead further with an outstanding long-range penalty from inside his own half and from another postcode.

Quins hit back, capitalising on a loose ball, chasing it down to score, although the conversion struck the post, leaving the score at 22–18.

RGC responded emphatically. Caio Parry finished well down the left wing to stretch the lead.

That score was extended with another great bit of skill from Dion Jones. Similar to last week, the fullback attacked with pace, before a cute pass put the back into the hands of Sam Jones to sprint clear, step and score. Liquid rugby at it’s best.

Space was opening up, the backline was looking to fire and it was starting to cause some problems for the visitors.

Although Quins added another try through centre Gabe McDonald, RGC remained firmly in control. Parry continued to threaten, nearly creating another score after a turnover and chip ahead.

The final word went to the home side, as a powerful driving maul resulted in Osian Burt crossing the line, with McBryde adding the conversion to complete a convincing 41–23 victory.
