Williams and Jones Return as RGC Name Squad for Pontypool
RGC’s front row has been strengthened with the return of Jessie Williams, as the prop pulls on an RGC shirt once again for the SRC Cup clash against Pontypool.
Since first joining the club in 2019, Williams has already made 81 appearances for RGC and is delighted to be back in North Wales.
“It’s good to be back in North Wales and at RGC. It truly feels like a home away from home, and it means a lot to be able to wear the jersey again and spend some special time with my mate Del — he missed me a lot.”
Williams recently spent time in New Zealand, combining a rugby opportunity with the chance to reconnect with friends and family.
“I spent some time in New Zealand chasing a rugby opportunity and reconnecting with friends and family I hadn’t seen in a couple of years. The best part was being able to show my partner, Emily, where I’m from and the place I call home.”
Also selected for the trip to Pontypool is Pedr Jones.
Jones has now made 82 appearances for RGC and was recognised last season after being named both Players’ Player and Coaches’ Player of the Year.
“It was a good experience being out there playing for Montreal Irish and Vancouver Rowing Rugby Club, hopefully will be heading back out there for a bit at some point.
But glad to be home now and back into rugby — it’s been good being back involved with Caernarfon Rugby Club and now RGC.”
There is also positive news off the field, with Sam Stoddard back in training after returning to North Wales. Stoddard made 45 appearances and finished as RGC’s top try scorer last season. He has also featured for Colwyn Bay over the past month.
“Canada was class. Made some good memories with Montreal Irish and met some great people there. I hope to get back out to Vancouver Rowers to finish the season off there and continue the club’s success.
In the meantime I’m enjoying playing at home and spending time with the family!”
