Super Rygbi Cymru introduces 20-minute red card

Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) has introduced a 20-minute red-card sanction as part of its continued commitment to developing the competition and aligning it with the professional game.

The 20-minute red card will apply to dangerous or technical foul play where a red card is warranted, but the offence is not considered an act of thuggery.

Under the new system:

• The offending player takes no further part in the match.
• The team plays with 14 players for 20 minutes.
• After 20 minutes, a replacement player can take the field.
• All incidents remain subject to the usual disciplinary process.

Examples of offences that could result in a 20-minute red card include dangerous high tackles, technical head contact, dangerous clear-outs or ruck entries, and reckless tackles involving a high degree of danger.

Consistent approach across SRC

The same decision-making process will apply across all SRC fixtures. The referee, in consultation with the assistant referees and, where appointed, the TMO, will determine whether the appropriate sanction is a yellow card, 20-minute red card or permanent red card.

The referee's decision will be made at the time of the incident, ensuring a consistent approach across all SRC fixtures, whether or not a TMO is appointed.
