SRC Round 8 Preview - Bridgend Away

Another Away Day for RGC

RGC are looking to halt the current run of defeats, as they head south for the 3rd Saturday in a row.

Round 8 of the SRC takes RGC to Bridgend, with former RGC Captain and Hooker Evan Yardley, as well as scrum-half Dan Roderick, who played for RGC last season.

Player Preview

Charlie Probert - “We head to Bridgend confident, because we know what we need to do, and importantly, we must make sure our performance levels are high, and stay that way for the full 80 minutes with no drop-off.

Looking at the last couple of games, our own errors have cost us — so we know that if we cut them out, we give ourselves a real chance.

The positive for us as a group is that it’s on us as players — we know where the focus needs to be, and that’s what we take into Saturday.

We want to finish this block of away games with a win, and take that back to Stadiwm Eirias for the game v Ebbw Vale on the 15th November — but first we need to deliver at Bridgend.”

Last Saturday– BRIDGEND 29–40 NEWPORT

Bridgend led 10–0 after tries for Ben Evans and Lloyd Wilkins, but Newport hit back with four quick tries (Matt O’Brien, Wade Langley, Fin Baker & Che Hope) to lead 26–10 at HT.

Bridgend came flying out after the break — Ben Evans scored again and Joseph Gatt crossed, both converted by Fraser Jones, pulling it back to 24–26.

With 15 to go, Bridgend turned down a penalty to kick to the corner — the overthrow was punished, as Newport went the length for O’Brien’s 2nd. Late on, youngster Noah Morgan added another for Newport.

Bridgend’s final points came from prop Jared Williams.
